Flash Fundamentals: Using Masks in Animation
A Mask in Flash is an Instance (or any image object) that acts as a hole through which we see the contents of a Layer or Layers beneath it.  The hole in the Mask can be animated as well as the content that the hole in the Mask reveals.  This chapter details the process of creating and using Masks in Flash.
